Cornwall needs a transport network that provides everyone with good access to jobs, health care, local shops and other important facilities.

Passengers often face bus and train services that don’t connect, high fares and a lack of evening and weekend services in many areas.

At the same time, the roads can be jam-packed with frustrated drivers. This in turn makes the streets more polluted and dangerous for everyone else.

Traffic in Cornwall has increased much faster than the UK average over the last 10 years, as public transport services have been cut.

The answer is to re-prioritise traffic planning – to make it more inviting to leave the car at home.

What’s more, safe cycling and walking routes can bring health as well as environmental benefits.

In the longer term, we face a massive reduction in petrol-based transport as oil resources decline and carbon emissions are cut.

This is a particular challenge for a rural area like Cornwall and we must start to invest in better transport now.

The huge annual subsidy for Newquay Airport is environmentally and financially irresponsible and must be ended.

Our Vision for Transport
