Green Candidate Visits Wildlife Garden
 |
Green Parliamentary candidate for St Ives, Tim Andrewes, visited a community-run wildlife garden in Penzance last week.
The Love Lane Wildlife Garden was founded five years ago on land belonging to the former Penwith District Council, on the west side of Penzance. It is cared for by members of the Penwith Environmental Network, including Steph Hirtenstein, who showed Tim around the site.

Over the last five years, a large number of native trees have been planted, along with a new hedge, a willow structure for children to play in and a wildflower meadow. There are also areas set aside for vegetable growing.
Tim heard how the garden provides an opportunity for local people to spend time outdoors, learning gardening skills, keeping fit and enjoying the natural environment.
Speaking after the visit, Tim said:
"Green spaces in our towns and villages play a really important role – as natural breaks within a built up area, as places where people can relax and meet each other, and at sites such as Love Lane, as somewhere to learn new skills and keep active.
"The Wildlife Garden is a great example of what can be achieved when local people have the vision and enthusiasm to do something positive."
Tim has a longstanding interest in green spaces and is actively involved with the Ayr Field and Steeple Woodland projects in St Ives.
Penwith Environmental Network is inviting volunteers to grow vegetables on the site this year. Local people can find out more about Love Lane Wildlife Garden by contacting Steph Hirtenstein on 01736 366730 or by emailing
