Ian Wright to stand as Green Candidate for Truro and Falmouth Constituency

Ian Wright has been selected by the Cornish Green Party to be its candidate for the general election for the Truro and Falmouth constituency.

Ian Wright - Truro & Falmouth
Ian lives in the village of Portloe on the Roseland. Ian is married with two children who attend the local school in Veryan. Mr Wright has lived in Portloe for thirteen years. Mr Wright works
as an inspector of health and social care services for the Care Quality Commission.

The Green Party is now fielding three candidates in Cornwall; Ian Wright in Truro and Falmouth, Camborne and Redruth (Euan McPhee), and St Ives (Tim Andrewes).

Ian says of his selection that ‘It is a great privilege to stand for the Green Party; the MP expenses scandal, the credit crisis and subsequent bail out of the
banks all show the need for a real change from the tried but failed policies of the main three parties. Along with the challenge of global warming, only the Green
Party’s progressive but realistic policies can lead to a fairer, sustainable future for Britain’.

Ian believes only the Green Party provides the only viable alternative to the traditional 'Grey Parties' to govern Britain:

We are the only main party which is prepared to challenge traditional economic thinking based on economic growth. We need to develop a sustainable economy
recognising the finite resources of our planet, and end the constant drive to increase the wealth of people in developed nations which usually comes at the
expense of people in the developing world.

Only the Green Party has a strong belief in equality. Both Conservative and Labour governments have resulted in developing a more unequal society, where the potential of many of our people has not been realised or fulfilled. We need to ensure fair taxation so those who are richer, who consume more and who are more wasteful with our natural resources subseqently pay more. This money can help to provide services for all of us, and particularly those who need more help such as the disadvantaged and the elderly.

The Green Party believe in using Britain's influence not to support and fight wars overseas, but to increase aid to developing nations, and promote peace for example
by getting rid of Britain's nuclear weopons, ending our involvement in Afghanistan, and actively supporting conflict resolution through a strengthened United Nations .

The Green Party would actively work to end the environmental destruction of our planet. We must act now to take practical steps to stop climate change for example
through eco taxation and individual carbon quotas.Only the Green party accepts the need to reduce carbon emissions by 10% a year between now and 2030 in order to save and protect our planet.

Ian wants the Greens to actively campaign in Truro and Falmouth by:

  • Meeting local people and building support for the Greens for example through public debates with the other party candidates in the run up to the general election, and by us having a regular street stall in Truro and Falmouth
  • Getting our message across through the media so people will hear our arguements for a more sustainable future, rather than just the narrow arguements currently offered by the mainstream 'grey' parties.

Ian and the Green Party believe the current distrust of the main political parties gives the Green Party a real opportunity to develop a broad spectrum of support for
policies that will result in real change in our society.
